This last week a dear friend of ours dad, had passed away in his sleep. This past Sunday, I attended the funeral. The night before the funeral I was out to dinner with some friends and had a very interesting conversation with Kate in the bathroom of all places. She asked me what a funeral was and if she would be able to come with me. I told her not this time. That it would be very sad and she would be sitting for probably a long time and the best place for her was with daddy and her brother and sister. She asked why it was sad and I told her that a friend of mine’s dad had died and they were going to be burying him that day and that his family wasn’t going to see him anymore, here on earth. This was their last time to see him. I told her that one day Grandma and Grandpa would die (along with everyone else) and she asked if she would be able to attend their funeral. I told her . “Yes”. I proceeded to tell her about our hope in Jesus and that when we live our lives for Christ and follow him and his ways, we have a promise that we will live in Heaven forever with him and that she will see Grandma and Grandpa again in Heaven. She asked if Jesus was there too. I said, “Yes.” Her eyes lit up like I have never seen before. “Really?” she said. “Will I see him with my own eyes?” “Yes, with your own eyes, you will see him”, I said. Just that sentence alone brought tears of joy to my eyes. She was so excited. She then asked if we would be able to move or if we would just stand there. I told her we would be there to worship him and give praise to him everyday and move around.
Today in the car, I played the song, “I can only imagine” by Mercy Me. I told her this song was about what it might be like the day we meet Jesus face to face. Her eyes welled up with tears and we sang the song together as we usually do.
I love these moments I get to share with my kids and show them a mommy that loves and depends on our Lord, Jesus Christ. May you cherish the moments each day with your children.
goodnight!!
